Here are the first two pages of my recently-produced ten-minute play, "Stone". If you are interested in purchasing the rest of the script and/or staging the show in your theater community, please contact me at ryan.jaime99@gmail.com
Scene 1
SETTING: A room with three chairs in a circle.
AT RISE: LAURA, DAN, and MEDIATOR are seated. Each person holds a small tumbled stone in their hands. DAN is wearing a prison uniform. LAURA is dressed in black professional attire. MEDIATOR is in professional attire. DAN and LAURA are clearly tense; they are unable to look at each other. MEDIATOR does her best to establish tranquility in the room.
MEDIATOR Thank you for being here today. I’ve met with you both separately about your story, and you’ve both shared with me that speaking to one another will help you as you search for justice and peace. Please remember that justice and peace, whatever those end up looking like between you, are why you are here. Keep justice and peace in mind as we talk about the events surrounding the murder and how they have affected the two of you. Any questions before we-
(LAURA drops her stone on the floor and shakes her head “no”. MEDIATOR stops talking. She is surprised, but nods with understanding. DAN lowers his head. The session is over.)

Scene 2
SETTING: A room with three chairs in a circle. A new day.
AT RISE: DAN, LAURA, and MEDIATOR are seated. LAURA and MEDIATOR have slight changes in their costumes to indicate that this is a new day. They have the same tumbled stones in their hands.
MEDIATOR Welcome back. Thank you for coming back and committing to our quest for justice and peace. Since we didn’t get to the ground rules last time, we’ll quickly go over them. Laura beautifully demonstrated our Drop Out system, which I’m sure you remember from our one-on-one meetings. If at any time you want to stop the session, drop your stone on the floor. No explanation needed, we stop and hopefully resume another day, but that is not required. It is up to you to keep the conversation going. I will lead the discussion and ask each of you to speak one at a time. Please do not interrupt each other. Be respectful of each other’s perspectives. Any questions?
(MEDIATOR pauses for questions. There are none.)
Let’s start with some opening thoughts. Laura, what is one thing you hope to get out of speaking with Dan today?
LAURA I hope to, um, get peace. By working through what I haven’t been able to talk about, especially what I want to say to Dan. And I hope to hear Dan out.
MEDIATOR Thank you. Dan, what is one thing you hope to get out of this discussion with Laura?
DAN I hope to, I mean I will, I definitely will, apologize. I’m sorry, Laura.
MEDIATOR Well, you’ve just achieved that goal. What’s another goal that you can accomplish with Laura that will make you feel like you’ve found your own justice and peace?
DAN It’s hard to think I’ll ever feel like that. That’s a good point, I take your point, though, Doc. I’m sorry. I hope to hear Laura out, to be here for Laura. Give her comfort.
MEDIATOR Thank you. Let’s move on to discussing the incident. Laura—
DAN I’m sorry, excuse me, I know I’m not supposed to interrupt.
MEDIATOR That’s alright.
DAN I have another hope to, uh, share.
MEDIATOR That’s great, Dan. Please share.
